UE Local 506, which represents approximately 1,400 production workers at the Wabtec locomotive plant in Erie, PA, is fighting to restore the right to strike over grievances in their current contract negotiations.
Local 506 had that right for over 80 years in their contract with General Electric, prior to Wabtec’s acquisition of the plant in 2019. A recent report conducted by the Project for Middle Class Renewal at the University of Illinois, Urban-Champaign found that since they lost the right to strike over grievances, per capita grievances have doubled and the company has become less likely to settle disputes.
