UE’s 78th Convention will be held from September 17-21 at the Wyndham Grand Hotel in downtown Pittsburgh, with the theme “Building Strike Power.” The official convention call was mailed to all UE locals on May 17.
“We’re looking forward to getting everyone together in person for the first time in four years,” said UE General President Carl Rosen. “It’s especially important for us to be meeting in this time of an upsurge in organizing and workers fighting for justice on the job.”
In a letter mailed to locals on May 17, containing the Convention Call and other documents, UE General Secretary-Treasurer Andrew Dinkelaker writes that “Since the last convention UE has been doing our part to participate in the historic surge of activism by organizing over 20,000 workers into UE, many of whom are currently engaged in direct action to secure their first contracts.” He also notes that “Our current membership has also stepped up to this moment by leading many important fights in their workplaces.”
The convention will feature a full day of workshops on Tuesday, with topics including strikes, building more effective UE locals, labor law, steward basics, telling the union’s story, and creating good jobs by organizing for climate justice.
For the first time, UE locals will be able to register delegates online. Information about how to register delegates online, hotel reservations, travel, the subsidy program, and anti-harassment policies and procedures were included in the mailing and can also be found on UE’s website at www.ueunion.org/convention.
