Update, 12/12/2024: Independent Senators Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema joined virtually every Republican in the Senate in blocking McFerran's reappointment on Wednesday, December 11.
For the past several years, the five-person board that governs the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), the federal agency in charge of protecting workers’ rights, has had a pro-worker majority, and that pro-worker majority has helped create the conditions for UE to grow as much as we have in the recent period. But we may lose that pro-worker majority if the Senate does not act soon!
NLRB members are appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate. Big business and CEOs like Elon Musk will make certain that President-elect Trump nominates board members who will side with corporations and bosses over workers. And, come January, they will have an anti-worker majority in the Senate to back them up. This will make it harder for us to protect our contracts and more difficult for workers to organize to join unions.
Take action now to ensure a functioning, pro-worker NLRB until at least 2026! The term of the Chair of the NLRB, Lauren McFerran, is expiring on December 16, and the Senate can vote to re-confirm her before Donald Trump takes office.
Send a letter urging Senators to re-confirm Lauren McFerran as chair of the NLRB immediately. Without her confirmation, there will no longer be a pro-worker majority on the board.
