Washington, D.C.
The New Year is almost here, and both Congress -- U.S. House of Representatives and Senate -- and the respective state legislatures will convene. Please take note of these detailed schedules as your UE Regions and Locals make plans for the coming year.
In the wake of the November elections working people will be facing the most hostile political climate since the Taft-Hartley Congress. The Republican Party leadership has been boasting about the barrage of attacks that they intend to launch against workers. Corporate America are making plans to flood Congress as well as the state legislatures with tens of thousands of lobbyists and unlimited truckloads of cash. Never in living memory have the battle lines been drawn as clearly as they are now.
Holiday and Christmas greetings are extended to all UE members and their families and to all working people who visit our UE web site throughout the year. 2011 promises to be an eventful year. And, as we have done many times in the past, working people will endure, persevere, survive, unify, and turn the tables on the corporate and political predators who control our economy and who have corrupted our democracy beyond recognition. They are few -- but we are many -- and with unity and solidarity as as our watchwords we will once again restore our nation to the path of peace and prosperity in the New Year.
