We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Finance Director to join our team. The Finance Director will play a pivotal role in supporting our mission by providing strategic guidance, leadership, and operational oversight for all financial functions within the union.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work at the direction of the General Secretary Treasurer (GST) in developing and implementing financial plans, budgets, and forecasts aligned with the union’s strategic objectives and guidelines to ensure transparency and accountability.
- Oversee day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and financial reporting.
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reports to be provided to GST for the general executive board and other relevant bodies.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements and reporting standards.
- Oversee the bookkeeper and local union auditor in the Finance department ,coordinate the national union audits, and manage relationships with auditors and regulatory bodies.
- Handle staff union information requests, support officers in grievance process and staff union bargaining as needed/directed by officers
- Establish filing systems, document retention policies, and other organizational systems.
- Oversee the maintenance and organization of office facilities.
- Oversee the office administrative support staff tasks and coordinate their work.
- Foster a positive organizational culture that values diversity, inclusion, and mutual respect.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field; or proven experience in a senior financial management role, preferably within a labor union or nonprofit organization and experience with supervising staff.
- Strong knowledge of financial management principles, practices, and regulations.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and work with outside accountants.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and build relationships across all levels of the organization.
- Commitment to the mission and values of the UE within the labor union movement.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to drive change and innovation.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks) and MS Office, particularly Excel.
